What inspired you to start your own business?

Edna developed juvenile arthritis in her teens, which made movement in her arms and legs more difficult as the years went by. In 1993, aged 63, Edna had an accident in her home, slipping over in her bathroom and breaking her arm. In the hospital, the nurses would often forget that she was unable to eat unassisted and sadly she was regularly overlooked.

Over time, it became harder to ensure that Edna was being properly cared for. Her husband Ronnie, also arthritic in his legs, was unable to care for her alone. It became clear to Clare, a full-time registered nurse, that the health of her friend was deteriorating. Clare and Claudio decided to invite Edna to stay in their 2-bedroom flat with their 3 children. They took it upon themselves to look for a long-term solution to help Edna return home. She had become so frail during her stay in the hospital that the day she discharged herself, she couldn’t be easily lifted from her bed to the car. At the time, Clare and Claudio couldn’t find a home care company providing trained live-in carers. Those claiming they did were unable to provide staff who could assist with tasks such as mobility transfers. This left Edna and Ronnie very vulnerable, relying on the kindness of friends to help them wash, dress and leave the house. By this point, it was clear there were no companies that could provide the standard of care Edna needed. Edna asked Clare and Claudio to help find her capable carers and, after some searching, they found Tony and Michel.
Tony and Michel were trained to care for Edna and Ronnie and this is how European Nursing Agency (ENA), in its earliest form, began.
In 2004 Clare begins to care for a close elderly friend in the local area. Jack requires hourly care, such as help getting dressed in the morning and help cooking meals, Clare and Claudio form ENA Hourly Care (previously Elisa Nursing Care). This provides domiciliary care in Welwyn, Hertfordshire, inspired by close friend Jack.

Why should our clients choose you?

We are small enough to keep our family ethos of knowing our clients and carers on a personal level. Every client has a named case manager to talk to about their care, wishes and goals, who is able to visit them at home upon their request. We constantly strive to deliver a high-quality service that reflects our family values since the company was established. We understand relationships are a focal part of our business and that’s why we invest considerable time in getting to know all of the people we employ. All of our care staff must undergo a rigorous recruitment process to enable them to meet our high-quality care values. ENA carers have background checks, in-depth interviews, an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and also go through an intensive one-week residential training and assessment course, followed by compulsory distance learning annually.

Carers have their skills updated yearly and often undertake update training to enable them to meet the broad needs our clients have. We never make use of agency staff which means we have firm control over the quality of our care delivery.

All of our care staff are employed by us directly and we profile their experience, likes and personality in order to gain a clearer understanding when matching them with our clients.

Can you provide your services online or remotely? If so, please add details.

We can arrange a first informal chat online or remotely so that you can find out more about us and meet one of the team, but we would need to come to your home to complete the assessment and meet you in person so that we can put together the bespoke care plan for you so that you are getting the high standard of care you need and deserve.

What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?

We follow all guidelines that are set by the Government, we also have our fully qualified award-winning in-house training team that regularly refreshes the carers with Infection Control training and updates. Our team of carers wear all the correct PPE and will also wear a mask if this was your preference to as we understand we are visiting some very v vulnerable clients and everyone needs to be kept safe as possible

Excellent agency. I've been using them for over a year now. They always provide well-trained, polite and thoughtful staff. One of the best agencies I have tried in over 20 years of needing care.
