Wedding Videographer Near Me

Your wedding day will be one of the most special and momentous days of your life. It’s the culmination of months of planning, and will be attended by your closest friends and family. One of the best ways to capture every detail of the day is through wedding videography.

Wedding videos create treasured keepsakes that you can rewatch for years to come. If you are searching for a wedding videographer near you, we’ll help you find the best local talent for the job.

Choosing your Wedding Videographer

Is a Videographer necessary for a wedding?

It’s a common question that often boils down to your budget. Wedding photography is, of course, beautiful but captures the still rather than the physical moments of the day. That’s why many couples hire both a wedding photographer and a videographer so that they can get the best of both worlds.

For example, the bride gliding down the stairs in her dress, the ceremony, first dance, speeches and all the other little moments that can easily be missed or forgotten about. For cultural weddings especially, there may be dances, ceremonial acts or other traditions that a couple would rather have recorded as well as photographed.

Wedding videos are something you’ll be able to watch back for the rest of your lives. While your guests may also record bits and pieces of footage, it’s not the same as having a professionally made video.

Different types of Wedding Videography

Just like every couple is different, so is the style of wedding videography that’s out there too. Depending on the theme of your wedding and your budget, one might be more appropriate than another. Here’s an overview of some of the most popular types of wedding videography.

  • Home Movie - Someone who will record all the key moments of your wedding and stitch the clips together, to give you a finished video. Home movie style wedding videos tend to be of lower budget and quality, but they can still be a priceless memory of your wedding day.
  • Music Montage - Another affordable option is to ditch the audio recordings and just have all the moments placed together with a soundtrack over the top. While music montage wedding videos don’t capture the personal touches as much, they do keep things concise and are typically quite affordable. Though it’s worth pointing out if you want to choose a copyrighted track, this means you won’t be able to share your video online, especially to YouTube.
  • Cinematic - Weddings are in themselves big productions worthy of a movie. A cinematic wedding videography style will bring the feel of Hollywood right to your wedding day! It will capture every laugh, tear and unmissable moment. The editing is of extremely high quality, and the finished piece will be highly moving and entertaining. As you might expect, cinematic wedding videos tend to be the most expensive as they require a lot more work.
  • Traditional - A wedding videographer will record the entire ceremony and the main part of the reception. The quality will be better than a handy cam style but will lack any artistic flair. In recent years, the popularity of traditional style wedding videos has declined but there are still some companies who provide them.

How to check your Wedding Videographers credentials

With wedding videos, the proof is in the pudding. The only way you can be sure your wedding videographer is qualified for the job is by reviewing their work.

Can I get a Wedding Videographer online?

While you might want to choose a local wedding videographer, it’s entirely possible to find one online too. The good news is that the majority of wedding videographers do travel, though this will be more expensive than hiring a local provider.

Questions to ask a Wedding Videographer

  • First and foremost, you want to know what kind of style the wedding videographer shoots. Is it snappy edits or smooth, refined shots? Do they include audio from the ceremony and speeches, or will it be shot more like a music video? Having a look at their work is a great way to determine this, but they may be flexible in their style too.
  • If you are hiring a local wedding videographer then ask if they have worked at the venue before and with your photographer. If so, they’ll likely know where to grab the best shots which will be a huge advantage. It’s also vital they have a good rapport with your photographer as they’ll be working alongside them all day.
  • You’ll also want to ask what kind of final product they will produce and how long it will take to get to you. A highly experienced wedding videographer will take at least 1-2 months to turn the video around, because of the amount of editing required. Cheaper or inexperienced videographers may only take a week to get the footage back to you, but the edit may not be as smooth.
  • You should ask if they have any contingency plans for a technical failure. An unreadable SD card or broken camera could spell disaster if not. A wedding videographer worth their salt will have all the possible scenarios covered, so that you won’t even notice if such an event happens.
  • Finally, as a couple, you must also ask yourselves whether you are willing to take the risk of hiring someone inexperienced just to save money. After all, you only have one wedding day and you have to be sure you’ll be happy with the finished product as it can’t be reshot if you’re not.

How much does it cost to hire a Wedding Videographer?

The cost of a wedding videographer depends on whether you are working on a budget or are opting for a high end production. Various companies specialise in either end of the scale. If you require your wedding videographer to travel, this is also an expense you’ll have to factor in. Whether you’re hiring just one person or a team to capture several angles will also affect the price.

What to look for in a Wedding Videographer

It ultimately comes down to what you want your wedding video to say about your big day. Do you want it to capture all the vibrance and hidden details, or to just be a short showreel? Every wedding videographer will specialise in a particular style, which is the main aspect to look out for.

The person or company you choose will be capturing one of the most special days of your life. Ideally, they will have captured many weddings before and have an impressive portfolio to show for it.

On a personal level, they should be someone who puts you at ease and also gets on well with other people. They’ll be working closely with your photographer and other key members of your team on the day, so they need to be professional and easy to get along with.

What do you love most about your job?

It's always a pleasure to capture and be a part of their love story. I love witnessing the wedding preparations, the ceremony, the speeches, and the dances. There is something so beautiful in capturing their special day and creating a video for them. I also get fulfillment when I receive feedback from couples on how they love reliving their wedding video and will cherish it forever.

What inspired you to start your own business?

As a sentimental person, I want to capture everything as it is. I treat my wedding videos like a time machine as it allows the newlyweds to feel that experience again. For this very reason, this has attracted me to filmmaking and its tools. Also, as a filmmaker mama, my baby daughter inspires me to follow my passion as it is one of the core values I want to teach her when she grows up.

Why should our clients choose you?

My main purpose is for couples to relive the magic of their wedding day and I do this as I am skilled in filmmaking and have a unique taste for editing by keeping them simple and making the videos timeless.

What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?

I will wear a face mask if required and will wash my hands frequently.

I was amazed to find someone as professional and as skilful with a video camera as David - definitely the best I've seen on Bark. Excellent value and very high quality work.

Where can I start? We originally didn’t have a videographer planned for our wedding day, but we both thought how wonderful it would be to capture the day in motion. We scurried long and hard, as we both had our expectations of how our day was going to be captured… Then we met Dan, he was extremely easy to talk to and after speaking on the phone with him and seeing his videos of past work, we knew we met the right guy. Mind you, it was a short time from speaking to Dan, to the Wedding Day itself. We met in the morning and he was so delightful even working hand in hand with our photographer. He was pleasant to work with, and he instructed us patiently well on how he wanted to capture our moments. Dan, not only was you a gentleman but a professional to work with. We haven’t stopped watching the video you’ve created masterfully for us. Thank you Dan, thank you Pretty Wedding Studios. The weather on the day may have been cloudy, but you were a silver lining to capture our unforgettable day ‘through the lens of the camera.’ Highly highly recommended. A+++

After starting up a recent football coaching business, I was approached by Nigel from Creative Ninjas who pitched an idea for a cool intro video for our socials which in turn brought us a lot of attention and customers. Truly grateful to have worked with such talent and will be back for more content soon! Thanks again
